  • Commercial Indoor and Outdoor lighting

We have a large and varied choice of outdoor commercial lighting and we are sure we can help you find the right lighting for your business. The following is just a sample of what we can offer:

  • Emergency lighting
  • Floodlighting
  • High bay lights
  • Ceiling grid panel lights

We can meet the needs of commercial and industrial clients. We will always complete a free lighting survey to ensure you purchase the most appropriate product for your business needs and ensure the light configuration gives optimum coverage, balance and light intensity.

The correct lighting is an important part of your business as it can:

Reduce Energy Costs – Businesses can spend thousands of pounds a month on their lighting and this is where money can be saved. LED lamps are now approximately around 75% more efficient.

Environment – This is now an important part of any business decision as it has become a hot topic in and outside the workplace. Contributing to a greener planet and reducing your carbon footprint is financially beneficial.

Maintenance – Changing your tubes, lamps or spots can cost and disrupt your business. Modern LED lamps have a life in excess of 50000 hours (around 6 years with continuous use).

Emergency Lighting – Having reliable emergency lighting provides peace of mind for you, your staff, visitors or customer and ensures that you have provided the relevant security and safety options for your business. This lighting system will protect your business from any unexpected circumstances such as a power cut. Emergency light fittings can tell when the power has failed and immediately switch to using the backup battery.

Floodlighting – These lights give a broad beam for use to light up large outdoor areas. It is important to choose the right system and the right level of lighting and therefore an accurate assessment of what you need is required. Dependant on what you require LED floodlighting is bright enough to be used on large sports fields. This has the added advantage of lower power consumption and the bulbs last much longer than other more conventional types.

High Bay Lights – These offer a high energy efficient lighting for areas such as manufacturing, retail and any large commercial space. Correct lighting is needed to ensure the safety of your workforce. LED High Bay lighting can save energy and can normally run for approximately 50000 hours. This type of lighting is often used now to replace fluorescent lighting which uses a greater amount of energy and therefore adds further costs to your business.

Ceiling and Panel Lights – An LED panel light is often used to replace traditional fluorescent lights. It is a more uniform lighting and is designed using an LED light source which once again has an extremely long lamp life and no UV or IR emissions. As it has a low voltage constant current driver is energy saving and safe.

  • Fire Alarms and Maintenance

Newton Electrical Contractors install and maintain fire alarms for commercial clients. Changes to health and safety requirements means that the correct fire alarm/detection system has become a must for all businesses.  No matter how small or large your business you will be inspected to ensure you meet fire safety regulations.

We can offer a variety of fire alarms systems to meet your needs. Below are just a few examples:

  • Conventional fire alarm systems
  • Twin wire fire alarm system
  • Wireless fire alarm systems

Conventional system – This is the most popular and complies with BS:5839. These systems include smoke and heat detectors which are wired separately from the sounder circuits. They are the cheapest of the systems and tend to be easiest to fit but most importantly they meet with British Standards.  Maintenance costs tend to be slightly lower for this type of system.  Should a fire break out these alarms will detect fires in specific sections of your building. The circuits can be controlled from a central control panel. Sounders are prompted in appropriate locations which sounds the alarm.

Twin Fire Alarm systems – These are similar to a conventional system due to them having detection zones. The difference is that sounders can be added to the detection circuit which can save cost as there is no need to wire additional circuits. As each call point or smoke alarm is connected to the main fire alarm control panel when a detector is triggered the fire alarm control panel will operate so the building can be evacuated. The alarm will only be sounded in the zone where the fire has been detected. If the fire continues the alarm will sound in the whole building. If a fire isn’t detected the system will automatically reset.

Wireless fire alarm systems – These are an alternative safety option should it not be practical to use cables. This means signals are transmitted across a radio frequency instead of through wires.  The advantage of these systems is that they are easy to maintain and update. They can be disconnected and relocated without any problems as there are no wires to move. Our wireless fire alarm systems comply with EN54-25 testing and performance requirements and frequencies can cover a range of up to 1.5km and therefore ideal for properties of all sizes.

Whether it is an alarm for your home or your business we will ensure you are fitted with the right alarm for your needs.

  • Electrical Installation Condition Reports

Under the Health and Safety Act (as ammended) all employers are responsible for their employee’s health and safety in the workplace.  This means that all businesses should have an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out at least every five years. This is an in-depth report that details any necessary electrical work needed in order to ensure that your business meets the Health and Safety regulations.

These regulations also apply to landlords who are responsible for their tenant’s electrical safety under the Private Rented Sector Scheme. Tenanted Properties under the scheme are required to be inspected every 5 years or change of ownership (ie tenant) by law, however for owner occupied commercial premisis this is a recommendation

An EICR report will show:

  • If there are any potential safety risks which may cause electric shocks or a fatality
  • The extent of any wear and tear/damage which may affect the safety of your business
  • If electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded
  • If there is any poor electrical work
  • If there any parts of your wiring instillation that does not meet the IEE Wiring Regulations

Once an inspection has been carried out a report will be generated and any findings and recommendations discussed with you.

We can produce two types of report for you depending on your request:

Visual condition report – this is a less comprehensive report and does not include testing and we would only recommend this if your electrical systems had been tested recently. Also, faults may be noted during PAT testing which is carried out to check all portable electrical appliances.

Periodic inspection report (EICR) – this is a full report which includes all the testing as above and is the most requested report for businesses.

Carrying out an Electrical Instillation Condition Report can also pre-empt electrical issues which could save your business time and money. They can also be requested for insurance purposes.
